Unification Academy 2021

Cheolwon Camp, TUCKU-FNF Unification Academy

In the autumn semester 2021 the „Unification Academy“ at Korea University took place for the first time. This semester-long class is a joint project by the Tübingen Center for Korean Studies (TUCKU), the faculty of Liberal Arts of Korea University and FNF Korea. The class was organized and conducted by Prof. Han Unsuk of TUCKU who is a close friend of FNF Korea.

Half of the students are from Germany and half from Korea and they jointly approach the topic of unification and division by comparing the cases of both countries. The class consists of lectures, special guests lectures by various experts and student group work and presentations. A highlight was the 3-day camp in Cheorwon, close-by the DMZ. Students visited various unification relevant sights and experienced how the division impacts the border region. During their stay in Cheorwon, the students created short films using a unique and creative approach to the complex topic of unification and division.

We want to thank Prof. Han for the great cooperation and all the students for their active participation. We are looking forward to the next unification academy 2022!

Johanna Lander, student of the unification academy, created a film about the unification academy that you can watch here:
