About FNF Morocco : More than half a century of engagement

In 1969, a few years after the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom had begun its international work, the office in Rabat was set up at the request of the Moroccan Ministry of Information. The aim was to follow the example of the Tunisian journalism school Farhat Hachad, and to establish a university for media professionals. An initiative that would then lead to the creation of the Higher Institute for Information and Communication (ISIC). ISIC has since trained thousands of Moroccan students and is still a close partner of the Foundation in the training of journalists and the fight against fake news.

The Foundation has expanded its engagement in Morocco since, focusing in particular on civic education as a major field of activity. In doing so, it addresses a wide range of issues:

  • Human and civil rights
  • Democracy and transformation
  • Free and social market economy
  • Smart City & Sustainable Mobility
  • Strengthening and empowering women

The activities of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom always take place in cooperation with Moroccan partner organisations from civil society and politics and are intended to contribute to the development of a free and open society in order to enable citizens to live in democratic self-determination and the rule of law.
