The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom has been active in the South Caucasus since 1996. The work began with projects of the political education in Azerbaijan, from 2002 also in Armenia and Georgia. The office is located in Tbilisi, Georgia. The main focus of the work is the transformation process of former soviet republics towards modern democracies with free political systems based on social market economy and the rule of law.

E-voting during Local Self-Governance Elections 2021
Today Georgia is holding self-government elections, within that process a pilot program is being implemented in 31 polling stations, the aim of which is to introduce e-voting in Georgia which will raise confidence and trust in future elections, one of the supporters of which is the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom.

Meet Nino Bolkvadze from Georgia
For Nino Bolkvadze, a lawyer, an LGBTI activist, and the first openly lesbian individual running for office in the history of Georgia, the meaning of the rainbow flag – a life in colour and joy – became clear when she came out publicly on Georgian national television in 2015. Married at 16, and now a successful lawyer with two grown children, it took Nino 20 years to accept herself.

Meet Tinatin Khidasheli from Georgia
I am not simply a conscious liberal,” says Tinatin Khidasheli, Georgian human rights lawyer, academic, politician, and an ex-Defence minister – the first female one her country and the Caucasus has seen. “I am an instinctive liberal – it is not just from reading books, it happened to me naturally.” Currently, she heads a Georgian think-thank, Civic IDEA, fighting the soviet legacy in Georgia, confronting Russian propaganda, and advocating for a sound defence and security policy for Georgia while also teaching in academia.
