The idea of Nonfunctional Laboratories in Schools won the first place in Falling Walls Lab Myanmar

The idea to solve the issue of Nonfunctional Laboratories in Schools won the first place in Falling Walls Lab (FWL) Myanmar 2022.

The owner of the idea was selected as the winner on 17th September, 2022 by a team of 6 juries with varying expertise. This event was the first in-person event in 3-year time after covid-19 restrictions were enforced since early 2020.

A total of 17 finalists presented their ideas on how their ideas could solve the various issues amongst the communities. Their innovative ideas were presented within 3 minute with the support of clear and sharp presentation slides.

Ye Min Lat won the first place of FWL Myanmar 2022 with his project titled “Breaking the Wall of Nonfunctional Laboratories in Schools”. Ko Khun Kyaw Zeyar Win with the title “Breaking the Wall of Agri-Financing and Supply Chain Mechanism” and Dr. Tin Mar Lar Thein with the title “Breaking the Wall of Market Barriers for Local Ginger Farmers” won the second and third places of the Lab respectively.

“I knew FWL events from Facebook and their 3 min presentations on international stage in Berlin attracted me to apply. I really would like to encourage young people with innovation mindset to participate in next year lab”, a participant with the idea relevant to Food processing told FNF.

The FWL Myanmar is hosted annually with the approval of Falling Walls Foundation in Germany since 2016. Even when the world suffered from COVID-19-19 pandemic in 2020, FWL Myanmar was organised as a virtual event. However, the political situation in Myanmar did not allow FNF to organise FWL in 2021.

“We decided to organise FWL Myanmar 2022 as a closed event without media or external audience because of the political situations and general public opinions. Although we did not promote the event much based on that decision, we received many applications for the lab and had to screen intensively to get the list of finalists”, told Aung, a Programme Manager of FNF Myanmar and the focal person of FWL Myanmar.

A team of 6 juries with different expertise and background provided the score and selected the winners from FWL finalists. They unanimously chose the innovative idea to tackle the issue of nonfunctioning laboratories in schools as the winner based on its relevancy to the context, potential positive impacts and feasibility of implementing it.

The winner will get a chance to go to Berlin, Germany to present his winning idea to an international audience during Falling Walls Global Lab on 7 November. He will also be invited to attend Falling Walls Conference where more than 600 guests from over 75 nations will attend.

Falling Walls Lab is intended to promote outstanding entrepreneurial, social and scientific initiatives, research projects as well as business plans. By hosting the Falling Walls Lab in Myanmar, the spirit of innovations and competition shall be fostered amongst entrepreneurs, students and innovative thinkers from all disciplines.
