A New Leap for Local Autonomy in Korea: Prospects and Challenges

On Friday the 18th of June, Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom Korea Office and the Center for Local Autonomy at Hanyang University held a domestic seminar on "A New Leap for Local Autonomy in Korea: Prospects and Challenges," co-organized by the Graduate School of Public Policy Hanyang University and the Graduate School of Public Policy Students' Association Hanyang University.

As the first presenter, Soon-eun Kim, the chairman of the Autonomy and Decentralization committee, talked about recent achievements and new directions of local autonomy in Korea, focusing specifically on the period of president Moon Jae In and his decentralization politics.

Followed by Ki-woo Lee, a professor at Inha University Law School, who gave a presentation focused on the new perspectives the local autonomy can face in the future.

Following the presentations, participants from local governance continued to have lively discussions by voicing their thoughts and opinions based on the heard presentation. The audience's questions on YouTube were answered, which allowed them to get an even more in-depth insight into the topic.
