Phyu Phyu Thi
In Myanmar, where disinformation is pervasive, the role of journalists is often undermined. Media literacy advocate Phyu Phyu Thi holds the line and seeks out new paths for “edutainment” in order to never allow the truth to become compromised.
Phyu Phyu is the Co-Founder and Program Director of Myanmar ICT for Development Organization (MIDO), which aims to narrow down the digital gap, increase the usage of ICT to advance the country’s development and advocate good internet policies for ICT users.
Part of Phyu Phyu’s work is to design media literacy programs, the most recent of which being MIL Kyi (Just Ask), a video broadcast that deals with the issue of disinformation. She also is involved in initiatives that promote digital security, attempt to counter hate speech and craft social media verification guidelines.
Phyu Phyu has published a book titled “Of Peaceful Days”, which is a compilation of stories, essays and poetry about social harmony between people of different faith in 2018.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Social Science, with a focus in sustainable development, from Chiang Mai University, Thailand. She is currently doing her Ph.D. in Peace Building Studies at Payap University Chiang Mai.
