Vietnam MoFA and FNF signing a Cooperation Agreement to implement EVFTA

MOU between MoFA and FNF

On August 26, at the headquarters of MOFA, Country Director of FNF Vietnam - Andreas Stoffers and Director of the Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation of MOFA - Mrs. Nguyen Minh Hang had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on support for capacity building for international integration in the period 2020-2023, in the presence of Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Bui Thanh Son and Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Vietnam Guido Hildner.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Permanent Deputy Bui Thanh Son highly appreciated the importance of the MOU, especially in the context that Vietnam entered a period of extensive and comprehensive international economic integration, in the midst of the complex new transitions in the region and around the world. He also showed his appreciation to FNF Vietnam for coordinating MOFA in supporting localities and enterprises to integrate internationally in recent years; and expressed his trust in the support of MOFA and the German Embassy in Vietnam, the upcoming cooperation activities under the MOU will be implemented more effectively and practically in support of localities and enterprises in improving international integration capacity, making good use of FTA’s benefits, thereby contributing to deepening the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Germany.

In his speech, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Vietnam Guido Hildner emphasized that he was pleased to see that the economic relationship between Vietnam and the EU is growing stronger; affirming that the EVFTA not only reduces tariffs, but also contributes to promoting Vietnam to improve commodity standards, hygiene and environment standards ... The Ambassador also expressed that the cooperation between The Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation and FNF Vietnam has been deployed more effectively, contributing to enhancing the capacity of implementing international economic integration as well as the competitiveness of Vietnam.

This Memorandum will focus on Five main activities include: (i) policy exchange, cooperation to improve capacity for international integration; (ii) organizing conferences and seminars on international integration, economic restructuring, growth model transformation, sustainable development; (iii) to conduct researches in service of advising and proposing policies on international integration; (iv) training young staff in the fields of international integration and sustainable development; (v) implementing a number of cooperative activities to support local and Vietnamese enterprises, especially micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in capacity building, market expansion and partnerships to make full use of EVFTA.

This is the second MOU between the Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation and FNF Vietnam on capacity building for international integration. In the period 2017-2019, the two sides implemented 12 practical activities for localities and businesses, contributing to deepening the Vietnam-Germany strategic partnership.
