Gerhardt discusses future of liberalism in Tunisia

Wolfgang Gerhardt During a recent visit to Tunisia, Dr. Wolfgang Gerhardt, Chairman of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Liberty (FNF) and Vice President of Liberal International held talks with the leadership of LI Full Member the Parti Social Liberal (PSL) as well as senior officials of the Tunisian government and the Tunesian parliament. Dr. Gerhardt, who was accompanied by Harald Klein, the Head of International Politics at FNF, also met with Monder Thabet, the leaders of PSL and other leaders of the party.

The Tunisia meeting was coordinated by Dr. Ronald Meinardus, Regional Director of FNF for the Middle East and North Africa. Also participating in the Tunis events was Paul Speller, the Head of the Office for International Programs of LI Member the Liberal Democrats. Mr. Thabet of PSL, a party that is a member of the Network of Arab Liberals (NAL), was recently elected to the Executive Board of NAL. NAL is presently preparing its first activity in Tunisia, which will be a conference on 'The Role of Women in Political Parties in the Arab World' in mid-October.
