Un-consented HIV Screening in Zambia

In the past months, the human rights situation in Southern Africa has mostly made the headlines with negative reports on human rights violations. A counterexample is the case of two ex-officers of Zambia's air force who were awarded damages by a court in Livingstone following claims that they were tested and treated for HIV without their knowledge. This verdict is an important milestone for the defence of human rights in the region and gives hope for similar cases characterised by evident prejudice and discrimination.

Agricultural Reform in New Zealand

New Zealand's agricultural reforms (1984-1991) offer a number of lessons for other countries. Perhaps the most obvious is that farmers can prosper without substantial state assistance.
