20 Years Working For Freedom In Cambodia

Cambodia The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) recently celebrated its 20. anniversary in Cambodia. 100 guests joined us at Meta House, Germany´s Cultural Centre in Phnom Penh, among them Ambassador Wolfgang Moser, Sam Rainsy Party MPs Mu Sochua und Yim Sovann, Human Rights Activist Dr. Kek Galabru, Politician Son Soubert and Dr. Yang Saing Koma, President of our partner CEDAC.
Dr. Koma had in 1991 received a scholarship from the foundation to study in Germany. In the same year, former project director Dr. Wolfgang Sachsenröder went to Phnom Penh for the first time in order to set up FNF projects with local partners.

100 guests at Meta House “The early 90s were a new beginning for Cambodia. It was great that the Naumann-Foundation came here right away and that it continues to work with us”, Dr. Kek said, who chairs a National Working Group on Human Rights. FNF´s activities in Cambodia include cooperation with democratic parties, human rights activists and NGOs, which work for more Freedom in Cambodia.
During our recent event in Phnom Penh, we also honoured Khim Sophanna, who has been working for FNF in Cambodia for the past 15 years. In addition, Meta House showed the documentary „Pepper – Property – Prosperity“, which was funded by FNF. The film features pepper production in Cambodia’s Kampot-Province, it shows the benefits of market economy, economic freedom and the protection of property rights.
